What paint do I need tp spray paint a chair?

I bought a used glider, and dont like the color of the wood (its a light wood color) but I wanted to know what what type of spray paint I need to buy to paint it?. Is it necessary to sand it down or can I just spray paint it? Any suggestions to refurbish this glider would be great! Thanks
